The work is very similar in size, colouring and composition to an oil on board scene of Amsterdam harbour that forms part of the Macgeorge bequest to Penston House Council Offices, Scotland.\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe work is in great condition. I’m unsure of the location but the artist was known to have spent some time in the Netherlands and Belgium and lived in Antwerp for three years as a young man. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWilliam Stewart MacGeorge was a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and was born in Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. To quote the Royal Scottish Academy website ‘For a long series of years he lived in Kirkcudbright in summer and in Edinburgh in winter.
